Planning ahead
When does kindy start in WA?
In Western Australia, children who will be 4 by 30 June can start kindergarten that year, at a school, a community kindergarten or some childcare services. Compulsory schooling starts in pre-primary, for children who turn 5 by 30 June (Department of Education).
Gumnuts, our kindy room for 4 to 5 year olds, is about getting ready for that step. Children pitch ideas, lead teams and share their learning, building the confidence, curiosity and resilience that help at school.
