What will childcare cost you after CCS?
Answer four quick questions. Your estimate updates as you go, using the 2026-27 rates for care from 6 July 2026.
The income test
How does your family income set your CCS percentage?
Your CCS percentage depends on your combined family income, which is your and your partner’s adjusted taxable income for the financial year. In 2026-27, families with a combined income of up to $88,520 get 90%. Above that, the percentage falls by 1 percentage point for every $5,000 of income, worked out to the dollar and rounded to two decimal places, until it reaches 0% at $538,520.
Services Australia’s own 2026-27 examples show how it works: a family income of $254,305 gives 56.84%, and $400,000 gives 27.70%. During the year your CCS is based on your income estimate, and after 30 June it is balanced against your actual income, so it helps to keep your estimate up to date.

More than one child
Do younger children get a higher CCS rate?
Your second and younger children can get a higher CCS rate when your family has more than one child aged 5 or under getting CCS. Your eldest child aged 5 or under gets the standard rate, and your children can be at different services.
The higher rate has its own income test for 2026-27:
- Up to $146,437: 95%.
- More than $146,437 to below $191,437: falls from 95% to 80%, by 1 percentage point for every $3,000.
- $191,437 to below $270,727: 80%.
- $270,727 to below $360,727: falls from 80% to 50%, by 1 percentage point for every $3,000.
- $360,727 to below $370,727: 50%.
- $370,727 or more: no higher rate, so every child gets the standard rate.
If an older child aged 5 or under gets CCS at another centre or in before and after school care, answer Yes to that question in the calculator, so your child at Everwood is counted as a younger child.

The hourly rate cap
What is the CCS hourly rate cap, and why does your session matter?
CCS is paid on your hourly fee or the hourly rate cap, whichever is lower. From 6 July 2026 the cap for centre based day care, which includes long day care centres like Everwood, is $15.19 an hour for children below school age.
Your hourly fee is your daily fee divided by the hours in your session. In Services Australia’s own example, a $100 fee for a 10-hour session works out at $10 an hour. CCS is worked out on the full session you book, even if your child arrives later or goes home earlier.
So a longer session lowers your hourly fee, but it also uses more of your subsidised hours each fortnight. Everwood is open from 6:30am to 6:00pm, an 11.5-hour day, and the calculator lets you choose your session times and check the daily fee for your child’s age group.

The 3 Day Guarantee
How many hours of care does CCS cover?
Since 5 January 2026, every family eligible for CCS gets at least 72 hours of subsidised care a fortnight for each child, which is 3 days a week. This 3 Day Guarantee replaced the old activity test.
- 72 hours a fortnight for each child, for every eligible family.
- 100 hours a fortnight if you and your partner (if you have one) each do more than 48 hours a fortnight of recognised participation, such as work or study, or if you have a valid exemption.
- 100 hours a fortnight for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children. Let Services Australia know, or you may get 72 hours.
The full session you book counts towards these hours. With 11.5-hour sessions, 3 days a week is 69 hours a fortnight, which fits within 72 hours. Four days is 92 hours and five days is 115 hours, so on 72 hours the hours above your limit are charged at the full fee. The calculator shows this for each child.

Withholding and balancing
Why is 5% of your CCS held back?
Services Australia holds back 5% of your CCS by default to lower the chance of a debt when your CCS is balanced after the financial year. The held-back amount is part of the gap fee you pay, so the calculator includes it in your out-of-pocket cost.
After 30 June, Services Australia compares your income estimate with your actual income, and CCS balancing starts from mid-August. If you were paid too little, you may get money back. If you were paid too much, the held-back amount goes towards what you owe. You need to confirm your income by 30 June of the following year, or your CCS payments stop.
You can change your withholding percentage in your Centrelink online account up to twice a year. CCS itself is paid straight to Everwood and comes off your bill, and you pay the rest, which is called the gap fee.

Questions parents ask
CCS questions, answered plainly.
How accurate is this CCS calculator?
The calculator gives a close estimate using the 2026-27 Child Care Subsidy rates, but Services Australia works out your actual CCS from your details and the sessions we report. Your amount changes if your income, fee, session or days change, and real statements can differ from the estimate by a few cents because of rounding.
What income should I enter in the CCS calculator?
Enter your family’s combined adjusted taxable income for 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, which is your income plus your partner’s. An estimate is fine. Services Australia balances your CCS against your actual income after the year ends, and underestimating your income can lead to a debt.
Does CCS cover four or five days a week?
Whether CCS covers four or five days a week depends on your subsidised hours: with 100 hours a fortnight, it covers four 11.5-hour days in full (92 hours) and all but 15 hours a fortnight of five days (115 hours). On the standard 72 hours, it covers three such days a week (69 hours), and any hours above your limit are charged at the full fee.
My older child gets CCS somewhere else. Can my child at Everwood get the higher rate?
Yes, your child at Everwood can get the higher rate when your older child is aged 5 or under, gets CCS and your combined family income is below $370,727. Your eldest child aged 5 or under is the standard rate child, so answer Yes to that question in the calculator.
Do we lose the 5% that Services Australia holds back?
No, the 5% is held back, not taken away, until Services Australia balances your CCS after 30 June. If you were underpaid, you may get money back, and if you were overpaid, the held-back amount reduces what you owe.
Is there any CCS on a combined income of $538,520 or more?
No, at a combined family income of $538,520 or more your CCS percentage is 0%, so you pay the full fee. It can still be worth claiming in case your income turns out lower.
Does Everwood take CCS off our fees?
Yes, Everwood is an approved Child Care Subsidy provider, so Services Australia pays your CCS straight to us and it comes off your bill. You pay the rest, which is called the gap fee.
