Starting in January 2026, the Australian Government will introduce the 3 Day Guarantee to make early learning more accessible and affordable for families.
Every family will be entitled to at least 3 days (72 hours per fortnight) of subsidised early education and care, even if parents do not meet the activity test.
It’s important to understand:
✅ The 3 Day Guarantee is a subsidy, not free childcare. Families will still pay the gap fee between the subsidy and the daily rate.
✅ How much you save will depend on your family income and the fees charged by your early learning service.
✅ Families who already qualify for more hours through the activity test will continue to do so.

How the 3 Day Guarantee Works
All families will receive a minimum of 72 subsidised hours per fortnight (around 3 days a week).
Families who meet the activity test through work, study, or volunteering may be eligible for up to 100 subsidised hours per fortnight.
Families with a First Nations child will also be eligible for 100 subsidised hours per fortnight.
Families earning more than $533,280 in 2024–25 will not be eligible for the subsidy, which is the same as the current rules.
This guarantee ensures every family has access to at least some subsidised care, even if their activity hours are lower.
